Dear editor,
I’m writing to tell you about my opinion on the Senior English Textbook for Chinese Students being used now.
On the whole, the textbook we are using is a good one. It is more complete, with listening, speaking, reading and writing materials to train the students’ four skills.
However, the textbook also has quite some shortcomings.
First, it seems to try to teach the Chinese students the way native speakers learn their mother tongue. It pays too much attention to training abilities instead of teaching the basic knowledge of English in a step by step way. Besides, the texts and dialogue in the textbook are mostly about things in English-speaking countries, which we Chinese students are not familiar with. The texts are not interesting enough to draw us in to taste and learn the language.
We are looking forward to having a textbook fit for us to learn English more effectively.
Yours truly,
Zhang Ping
